Bangabandhu, Bangamata National U-17 Gold Cup soccer from today

The inaugural tournament of the Bangamata Begum Fazilatunnesa Under-17 National Gold Cup Football Tournament (Girls) and the second edition of the Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Under-17 National Gold Cup Football Tournament (Boys) will kick off today at the Tangail Stadium at 2pm.

Meanwhile, the logo of the two tournaments were unveiled in a colourful ceremony yesterday at the National Sports Council (NSC) tower auditorium.  Zahid Ahsan Russel MP, state minister for youth and Sports unveiled the logos as chief guest. Dr Jafar Uddin secretary of the sports ministry, Kazi Mohammed Salahuddin. president of the Bangladesh Football federation and the South Asian Football Federation (SAFF), Syed Shahed Reza, Secretary General of Bangladesh Olympic Association (BOA) were present as special guests.

A total of 1,13050 players with 4,828 from upazila, 581 from district, 68 from division and eight teams from national level will participate in the second edition of the Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Under-17 tournament. The inaugural edition of the Bangamata Begum Fazilatunnesa Under-17 National Gold Cup will start from the district level when a total of 11826 players from 581 team from districts, 68 teams from division and eight teams in the national are taking part in the countrywide age group football tournament.

Zahid Ahsan Russel in a press conference after the logo unveiling ceremony said that their main objectives are to involve and attract the new generation to sports, specially, in football and to keep the generation free from the drugs.

Russel also said that a total of 35 international sports tournament will be organized in the coming year (2020) to mark the ‘Mujib Barsha’ the birth centenary year of the Father of Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.

“Last year we started the tournament with the boys’ competition after the name of the Father of Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Under-17 National Gold Cup Football Tournament, this time we are going to organise the Bangamata Begum Fazilatunnesa Under-17 National Gold Cup simultaneously for the girls’.”

 “After organizing the Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Under-17, we realised that we should also stage another tournament for the girls after the name of the Bangamata Begum Fazilatunnesa, who had great contribution for our independence movements.”

Kazi Mohammed Salahuddin, the BFF president, said, “I am very happy and the BFF also proud of to be the part of these tournaments, is being organised by the Ministry of Youth and Sports.”

“I do believe that it will help us to have some talented players from these competitions, we will keenly follow the tournaments, we have local and foreign coaches for scouting. If we will get 100 quality players from these tournaments then we will manage high performance practice for them,” said Salahuddin.
