Masud Parvez to receive award as best film director

Noted filmmaker Masud Parvez, widely known for his screen name as Sohel Rana, will be awarded with the ‘Fazlul Haque Smrity Award’ for his immense contribution to the film industry. Aiming to present the award every year in the two categories—film journalism and best film director, renowned litterateur Rabeya Khatun, wife of Fazlul Haque, has introduced the award in 2004 on behalf of Fazlul Haque Smrity Committee. Noted cine journalist Shahidul Haque Khan has been selected for the category of film journalism for this year’s ‘Fazlul Haque Smrity Award’. Today, on the occasion of Fazlul Haque’s death anniversary, Fazlul Haque Smrity Committee will hand over the awards to the recipients through a ceremony at Hotel Westin, according to the organisers. The recipients will receive a certificate and a crest along with Tk 25,000 each as prizes. Fazlul Haque was also the pioneer of cine-journalism in Bangladesh, and was the editor and publisher of first cinema based Bangladeshi newspaper name ‘Cinema’. The paper was first published from Bogra in 1950, and later shifted to Dhaka. The last issue of the paper was published in 1959. He directed the county’s first children’s film titled ‘President’, which was highly appreciated by all and gave him considerable popularity. Previously, the awards were conferred to Fazal Shahabuddin, Chashi Nazrul Islam, Humayun Ahmed, Ahmed Zaman Chowdhury, Saidul Anam Tutul, Rafiquzzaman, Soovas Dutt, Hiren Dey, Abdur Rahman and Golam Rabbani Biplob, Syed Shamsul Huq and Amzad Hossain.
