A court in the capital yesterday granted 10 days police remand to two BNP leaders of Savar municipality in two separate cases for sabotaging during BNP endorsed hartal and blockade after January 5 general election.
Senior Judicial Magistrate of Dhaka, Siraj Zinnat granted five days remand each of the two cases against ex-MP Dr Dewan Mohammad Salahuddin Babu and M Refatullah, president of municipality unit BNP and also Savar municipality mayor, for setting fire to vehicles in Savar and Ashulia during the BNP-Jamaat called hartal.
The police produced them before the court praying 20 days remand. Advocate Sanaullah, lawyer of the accused prayed for the rejection of the remand plea and sought time till Monday for hearing.
The defence lawyers Sanaullah, Masud Ahmed Talukder, Moslehuddin Jasim boycotted the hearing along others.
The court granted 10 days remand in two cases against Salahuddin Babu and M Refatullah.
Earlier, police arrested Salahuddin Babu, vice-president, Dhaka district unit BNP and a former lawmaker from his Paribagh residence in the capital on Sunday morning.
Meanwhile, police also detained Refatullah, from Savar municipality area.
UNB adds: Police also arrested four activists of Islami Chhatra Shibir along with a foreign-made pistol, 29 rounds of bullet, two crude bombs and some jihadi (religious uprising) books from Shahibagh area on Saturday night.
A case was filed in this connection.
