Two suspects of Rifat murder, who was killed in broad daylight on June 26 in Barguna, gave their confessional statement before a court yesterday. The arrestees - Ali-Ullah Oli, who is the number 11 accused in Rifat murder case, and Md Tanvir, who was arrested as a suspect, has given confessional statement.
They gave the statement before Judicial Magistrate Md Sirajul Islam Gazi under section 164 of code of criminal procedure. The court later sent them to jail. Besides, the court also granted a 5-day remand for another three suspects—Saimun, Sagar and Nazmul Hasan in connection with the murder. However, Nazmul was in three-day remand earlier in the same case.
Meanwhile, Tiktok Hridoy, another suspect in this murder case, is in Dhaka with law enforcers for detaining other suspects, and so he was absent before the court.
Police arrested the other suspect Shrabon from Bazar road area in the upazila. As of now, police has arrested nine people including Shrabon in connection with Rifat murder.
It was known that the gruesome killing of Barguna youth Rifat Sharif was pre-planned.
On June 26, Rifat was hacked in front of his wife at Barguna College. Rifat’s wife, Ayesha Siddika Minni, tried desperately to stop the killers but failed to save her husband from the attackers. Though the murder took place in broad day light and hundreds of people were present there, none of them came to save Rifat.
Video footage shows he was attacked with sharp weapons and was pronounced dead at Barishal Sher-e-Bangla Medical College Hospital (BSMCH) later. The entire incident of Rifat’s murder, which was captured possibly on a mobile phone, shows the attack on the youth in front of the Barguna Government College around 10:30am on Wednesday, where Rifat went to drop his wife. The footage of the killing went viral on the social media on the same day.
