The Trading Corporation of Bangladesh (TCB) has started selling essentials in open markets in the city and eight districts under Rajshahi division for keeping the essentials’ prices stable ahead of the upcoming month of Ramadan.
The state-run trading organisation started the selling at five important city points- Shaheb Bazar Zero Point, Bhadra crossing, Railway Gate crossing, Nawdapara crossing and Luxmipur Crossing-using five trucks on Tuesday.
The TCB launches the selling operation ahead of the holy month of Ramadan every year to help the low-income people deal with possible hike in the prices of daily commodities.
An individual can buy maximum 5 liters Soyabean oil, one kg date, 4-kg sugar, lentil and chick-pea from the TCB sale centres.
Abdus Salam, who came for buying TCB goods at Railway Gate area yesterday, terms the government initiative as good. This step will benefit many low-income group people.
The dealers are selling sugar at Tk 47 per kg, edible oil at Tk 85 per liter and lentil at Tk 44 per kg.
Protap Kumar, regional official of TCB Rajshahi, said that they have started selling different types of consumer goods including lentil, edible oil and sugar at fixed prices through the appointed dealers in the district including 78 in the city.
The city corporation and respective district administration will continue regular monitoring side by side with the TCB authorities to prevent any sort of irregularity and mismanagement in selling goods.
Protap Kumar said 386 dealers were appointed for selling goods in the division.
For benefits of the people, the selling activities will continue till the last Ramadan, he added.
