Students of Jahangirnagar University (JU) brought out a procession on the campus yesterday demanding immediate election to its central students’ union JUCSU.
They brought out a procession under the banner of ‘Jahangirnagar Cultural Alliance (JCA)’ from the Teacher-Student Centre (TSC) around 11am yesterday. After parading different streets on the campus, the procession ended at JUCSU building of the university. They also submitted a memorandum to JU vice-chancellor demanding JUCSU polls.
At the procession, activists of different cultural organisations sang some patriotic songs and chanted slogan demanding JUCSU election. President of Jahangirnagar Cultural Alliance Ashikur Rahman said, "The university administration had assured us of holding JUCSU polls after the national election but we are yet to see any progress in this regard".
“We want to break the 26 years of deadlock of JUCSU polls. We will continue our demonstration through different innovative programmes till any initiatives taken by the authorities to hold JUCSU polls”, he added.
The last elections to JUCSU and hall unions took place in 1992-93.
