Mosaddek Hossain Saikat stole the show on a century-galore day in the National Cricket League (NCL) yesterday by smashing a fluent double ton which steered his side Barisal Division in an advantageous position on Day-2 against Sylhet at Sheikh Abu Naser Stadium in Khulna.
Khulna’s Mithun Ali missed a double century but his 186 runs kept the side aloft over Dhaka Metro at Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium while Nadif Chowdhury’s 111 established Dhaka Division’s command over Rangpur at Shaheed Chandu Stadium in Bogra.
Elsewhere at Shaheed Kamruzzaman Stadium in Rajshahi, Chittagong earned a crucial 75 run lead over hosts Rajshahi in a tightly contested game.

Barisal vs Sylhet
Sylhet replied strongly, ending the day two on 112 for no loss after Barisal declared the first innings on a gigantic 527 for nine.
In the tier-2 game, Sylhet is trailing by 415 runs and much will depend on the openers -Imtiaz Hossain and Shanaj Ahmed who were batting on 51 and 58 runs respectively.
Resuming the day 295 for five, Mosaddek led his side to a strong total, hitting his second double century in only his 12th first class match.  Starting the day on 31, he went after the bowlers from the words go which ticked the scoreboard at rapid pace. After he completed his double century which needed only 245 balls, Barisal declared the innings. Saikat in the meantime struck 15 fours and seven sixes. He indeed solely took the side past 500, scoring 169 runs alone in Barisal’s 232 runs on day two. Fast bowler Abul Hasan Raju and left-arm spinner Enamul Haque Junior claimed three wickets apiece for Sylhet.

Khulna vs Metro
New pace sensation Mustafizur Rahman continued impressing having scalped three for 19 that ripped through Dhaka Metro’s top order in tier-1 game as they were left with a meager 78 for four before the bails were drawn for Day-2.
Marshall Ayub and Asif Ahmed Ratul were batting on 27 and 25 runs respectively and their partnership will be key in avoiding the follow-on. They are now trailing by 377 runs.
Earlier Mithun missed his well-deserved double century but his 186 paved the way for a big total as Khulna amassed 455 before being all out in the first innings. Mithun hit 24 fours in his 270 balls knock. He was aptly supported by under-19 captain Mehedy Ahmed Miraj who hammered 67 off 91 with 13 boundaries. Fast bowler Mohammad Shahid took four wickets for Metro.

Dhaka vs Rangpur
Left arm spinner Mosharraf Hossain Rubel jolted Rangpur’s top order, having pushed them to 98 for three before the umpires called it a day. Rubel scalped all of the fallen wickets. Opener Liton Das only offered some resistance but was out on 51. Nasir Hossain was batting on 11 with Tanveer Haider on 17.
Nadif Chowdhury was the key in Dhaka’s respectable 449 runs before they were all out in the first innings. He scored 111 off 187 with 11 fours and a six and led the lower order smartly to frustrate Rangpur bowlers after Dhaka resumed the day on 265 for six. Tanveer Haider picked up four wickets for Rangpur in tier-1 game.

Chittagong vs Rajshahi
In tier-2 game, Rajshahi lost the platform of amassing a big total despite their top three batsmen made a strong start. All of the three batsmen however should be culpable for not counting the start. Opener Nazmul Hasan Shanto made 61 while his fellow opener Junaid Siddique hit 80 ball-81 with 10 fours and two sixes. One down batsman Farhad Hossain scored 69. However leg-spinner Juabir Hossain Likhon scythed down the Rajshahi’s middle order to help the side earn a 75 runs lead as they were bowled out for 308 after Chittagong’s 383 in the first innings. Likhon snapped up four for 104.
