While the national stars sans Mominul Haque failed to impress in the second round of the National Cricket League (NCL), little known Fazle Mahmud and Irfan Shukkur hogged the limelight hitting centuries in their respective matches yesterday.
Shukkur, the gloveman of the Chittagong Division struck 102 to steer the side to a respectable 346 for eight on day one against Rajshahi Division in Tier-2 match at Shaheed Kamruzzaman Stadium in Rajshahi. Fazle Mahmud’s century also came in the Tier-2 match as it drove Barisal to 295 for five against Sylhet on the rain affected day one at Sheikh Abu Naser Stadium in Khulna.
In Tier-1 match, Dhaka Division reached 265 for six on day one against Rangpur Division at Shaheed Chandu Stadium in Bogra while Khulna made 227 for five against Dhaka Metro on the rain-marred day one at Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in the capital.
Bangladesh Test captain Mushfiqur Rahim and all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan, are not playing the second round match for their divisional teams Rajshahi and Khulna.

Chittagong vs Rajshahi
Opener Tamim Iqbal was out with naught in just fourth ball of the day but Chittagong still reached a strong position thanks to the century of Irfan Shukkur and two 90s knock from Mominul Haque and Yasir Ali.
Tamim’s brother Nafis Iqbal made only 6 while Tasamul Haque scored 1 as Chittagong were left with meager 29 for three after which Mominul Haque and Yasir revived the innings with a 122 runs partnership. Mominul who was out of from in India tour, smashed 90 off 107 hitting 14 fours and two sixes. His dismissal prompted Shukkur to the crease and he responded with two significant partnerships—90 with Yasir and 100 with Mohammad Saifuddin. Yasir was out with 91 while Shukkur hit a patient167 ball-102 with 16 fours. Saifuddin was in the crease with 46 runs.
Shafaq Al Zabir claimed three wickets while Taijul Islam and Muktar Ali scalped two apiece.
Barisal vs Sylhet
Shahriar Nafees and Shahin Hossain shared a 116-run partnership to give Barisal a strong base which was utilised perfectly by Fazle Mahmud who ensured his side will reach a strong position before the rain played a spoilsport.
Nafees made 52 while Shahin scored 58. Fazle Mahmud blasted 120 ball-13, designed with nine fours and three sixes. At stumps, Barisal were 295 for five
with Mosaddek Hossain and Al-Amin Hossain were batting on 31 and 0 runs respectively. Enamul Haque Junior was the most successful bowler for Sylhet with two for 54.

Dhaka vs Rangpur
The snail-pace batting of Dhaka reminded the 90’s Test cricket as they were able to score 265 for six, playing full 90 overs on day one against Rangpur.
Dhaka’s innings got a shape by two half-centuries from Rony Talukdar and Roqibul Hassan. While Rony shrugged off his poor form in India tour with a 59 off 81, Roqibul made 52. Myshukur Rahman was the other notable scorer with 35. Before the bails were drawn, Nadir Chowdhury and Sagir Hossain Pavel were batting on 31 and 1 runs respectively.
Left arm spinner Suhrawardi Shuvo took three for 70 to be the most successful bowlers on day one.

Khulna vs Metropolis
Mithun Ali and Tushar Imran bailed out Khulna from the potential danger after Dhaka Metro bowlers wrecked havoc, leaving them in disappointing 80 for three.
Mithun Ali was unbeaten on 87 before rain affected the game as Khulna were 227 for five. Tushar Imran made 59 runs. Nurul Hasan Sohan was on 17 alongside Mithun.
While his colleagues of India tour fared decently on the day, Anamul Haque Bijoy also indicted to hit back form. But that was not materialized at the end as he was out on 34. Mohammad Shahid, Abu Haider, Elias Sunny, Saikat Ali and Sharifullah picked up one wicket apiece.
