completes 300 films

Veteran actress Sucharita, who began her career as a child artiste, has completed 300 films and is still going strong.

It has been a long journey for Sucharita, who has acted in various roles and portrayed a variety of characters in her career spanning almost five decades.

She first appeared as a child artiste in the movie ‘Babul’ in 1969. Next, she worked in Mustafiz’s ‘Kuli’ as a child artiste. She also acted as a child artiste in films like ‘Nimai Sanyasi’, ‘Obanchito’, ‘Rong Berong’, ‘Taka Ana Pai’, ‘Koto Je Minoti’, Raj Mukut’ and ‘Bablu’.

Later, Sucharita was offered the role of a heroine and performed in Azizur Rahman’s ‘Shikriti’, Dilip Biswas’s ‘Somadhi’ and Ashok Ghosh’s ‘Mastan’.

She captured the imagination of the viewers with incredible performance in various movies.    

Sucharita received the National Film Award for her stellar performance in ‘Hangor Nodi Grenade’ directed by the late Chashi Nazrul Islam.

Speaking to DhakaLive, the actress said she was happy with her achievement. “Well, I’d have been happier if I was awarded for my role in ‘Jadur Bashi’ and ‘Jibon Nouka’.”

The actress received accolades for her performance in both the movies.

“I was at the time informed that I’d get the National Film Award for ‘Jadur Bashi’, but later the award was given to somebody else. I came to know later that the award wasn’t given to me as I was too young to respect the award’s value. However, I still get amazed to see my own performance in the movie. I still feel sad,” she added.

Sucharita, earlier known as Helen, was renamed in the film industry by filmmaker Gazi Mazharul Anwar. Her favourite film personalities include Razzaq and Babita.

Sucharita is currently is working in a new film titled ‘Amar Ma Amar Behest’ directed by Badiul Alam Khokon. The shooting of the movie will be completed in next December.
