Prominent folk singer Farida Parveen along with Safiul Alam Raja hailing from Bengal Bikash, will perform today at 6:30pm at a musical programme titled ‘Praner Khela’ organised by Bengal Foundation at Bengal Shilpalaya in the city’s Dhanmondi area. In the programme, renowned folk singer Farida Parveen will render the popular number of Fakir Lalon Shai, while Bengal Bikash singer Safiul Alam Raja will render Bhawaiya song. Born in Natore and brought up in Kushtia, Farida Parveen started her career with Nazrul Geeti. In 1973, she performed the patriotic song ‘Ei Padma Ei Meghna’ and the Lalon song ‘Shatyo Bol Shupothey Chol’. Her other songs are ‘Tomra Bhulei Gechho Mallikadir Naam’, ‘Nindar Kanta Jodi’ and several Lalon classics. She sings mostly Lalon songs and is credited with spreading its popularity in Bangladesh. In 2008, she won the Fukuoka Asian Culture Prize for Best Music in Japan. In 1987, she received Ekushey Padak and in 1993, she was given the National Film Award for Best Female Playback Singer.
