Govt approves four new medical colleges: Nasim

Health Minister Mohammad Nasim today said the government has approved four new state-run medical colleges and hospitals to be set up in Magura, Naogaon, Nilphamari and Netrakona districts, reports BSS.

“The Prime Minister has approved these four medical colleges at Magura, Naogaon, Nilphamari and Netrakona districts and another planned for Chandpur is awaiting approval from the Premier,” he said at a press briefing at the secretariat in the capital.

Moreover, a total 250 students will be able to get enrolled from 2018-19 academic sessions in each of the colleges, Nasim said.  “The present government is committed to provide healthcare services to all. That’s why we have a plan to establish medical colleges in every district,” he said.

The health minister also announced a plan to recruit 7,000 doctors by November next and the doctors would be posted to upazila level, where they have to serve for at least three years, Nasim added. Prime minister Sheikh Hasina would lay the foundation stone of a new specialised hospital under Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU) on October 13, funded by Korean government.
