Tiger, Sundarbans and Bangladesh

There is no alternative to save the Sundarbans and tigers to save the biodiversity of this country

Tiger, Sundarbans and Bangladesh

The Sundarbans is the largest and only mangrove forest in the world which is well-known for being the home of the famous Bengal tigers. Some parts of the Sundarbans region are located in Bangladesh and some parts of India, with a total area of ten thousand square kilometers. About sixty percent of the total size of the Sundarbans is included in Bangladesh and 40 percent of India. According to Forest Department survey in 2004, the total number of tigers in Bangladesh decreased from 440 to 106 in 2015, and so far it is estimated that 106 tigers are in Bangladesh's Sundarbans. In 2015, the number of tigers in India was only 76, which was in number 85 in 2016. Now the question is that the number of tigers is decreasing day by day despite the size of the Sundarbans area, which is more in Bangladesh and why the number of tigers is increasing despite the size of India, why do we have to do now?

In order to protect the Royal Bengal Tiger of the Sundarbans, the forest department of India has taken several effective measures beforehand and has been implementing it properly. It has strictly prohibited public disinfection in the Sundarbans. The surrounding humanhabitation of the Sundarbans has been removed so that tigers and people do not have any conflicts. In the Sundarbans, the tribal people who live in the Sundarbans have removed from the Sundarbans to rehabilitate outside the Sundarbans. In addition to helping to increase the number of tigers, various technologies are being co-operated, such as to ensure public access by CCTVs and restrict access to public in all the places where there are frequent tigers. As a result, they were able to provide the Sunderbans a suitable and safe environment for the residence of the Royal Bengal Tiger and other wildlife.

As a result, the number of tigers and other wildlife has increased. In the Sundarbans section of India, the incident of conspiracy of common people or security forces with the pirates is very rare. Due to these activities, the habitat of tigers in the Sundarbans section of India is becoming more secure, resulting in the increasing number of tigers.

Let us now see the image of Bangladesh. Many people around Sundarbans have started the Sundarbans demanding livelihood. Some people are entering the Sundarbans freely to collect honey, while others are entering the golpata(Nypa fruticans) collection or catching fish freely. Again, some of the unprincipled people are entering forests freely for collecting timber and lumber. All these are subject to a certain level of approval of forest department. They are subject to conditional approval but after approval, they are not accepting the conditions. The question to the reader is that it is safe to collect honey in the Sundarbans tiger courtyard or is it easy and safe to cultivate honey by artificially cultivating honey in your own house? How many people make house by using golpata?

If the people who collect wood and fodder from the Sundarbans for fuel, then if they use renewable energy then is it not even better? A few days later, a gunfight happened in the Sundarbans. Shortly afterwards it was heard that the villagers demanded ransom by taking people into Sunderbans and taking them hostage. If such activities are organized inside the forest, then how many tigers and other wild animals in the Sundarbans are safe? If there are 106 tigers in the Sundarbans, then there should be 12,720 deer (as food discipline). Hunting in mangrove Sundarbans, it is a very difficult thing to catch deer for tiger. Tigers usually live on eating small-scale animals. Such as the wild cat, jungle fowl, wild pigs etc. According to Forest Department survey, about 49 tigers have been killed since 2001. A few days later, tigers entered the villages in search of food. It is very easy to understand that the deer located in the Sundarbans, along with other wild animals, which depend on the number of tigers, are getting much lower.

In addition, due to the illegal collection of timber in the forest, the shrubs too low. As a result, the deer on the tiger is becoming more difficult. In order to save the Sundarbans and the tiger of the Sundarbans, we should take appropriate measures right now.

We should do:

1.    The entry of the public in the Sundarbans is to be completely banned.

2.     If the people live in the forest, they should be removed from the Sundarbans and rehabilitated outside the forest and away from the forest.

3.     Honey, wood, gooseberry, and fish hunting must be stopped from inside the Sundarbans. People dependent on these should be self-reliant by taking renewable energy and artificially by adopting projects of honey, cattle and fish farming. In addition to this, the biogas should be placed in each household. Under the above project, people around the forest will reduce the dependence on the forest. For this, it is easy to take credit for the loan.

4.    In the middle of the Sundarbans, people and tigers, along with barbed wire fencing, should be kept away from each other.Besides, the entry of tiger to the local population can be reduced by putting solar panels in the middle of the Sundarbans beside the locality

5.    CCTV will be set up under the overall supervision of those areas of Sundarbans which are more crime-prone and illegal in the area.

6.     To ensure adequate food demand for tigers, the deer and pig farm near the Sundarbans must develop and deer and Pigs must be sent to the tiger of the Sundarbans.

7.    The natural reservoir will be arranged to remove the salinity of the Sundarbans and to ensure the safe water.

8.    Regarding compensation for the injured and wounded people and the cattle by the attacks of the tigers and this will reduce the anger of villagers and also prevent to kill tiger by human.

There is no alternative to save the Sunderbans and tigers to save the biodiversity and natural disasters of Bengal. Otherwise, the forest will be flooded due to excess tide, the lower part will be flooded, the amount of salinity on the soil will increase. Crop production of crops and fish will be reduced, poverty will increase and increase.

The government gives us hundreds of crores of projects every year to protect environment and nature. We should spend that money in a planned manner to create a healthy and habitable Sundarbans for tigers and other wildlife. Then only the Sundarbans and the precious Royal Bengal Tiger of the Sundarbans will be saved.
