20 hurt in BCL infighting

At least 20 Chhatra League activists, including Patuakhali Science and Technology University (PSTU) unit BCL president and secretary, were wounded in a factional clash on the campus early yesterday. According to campus sources, on Sunday PSTU eight semester students Uzzal and Kamrul were engaged in a hot talk over sitting in front seat on the university bus while the bus was returning to PSTU campus from Barisal town. Later, at around 1 pm some BCL activists known as Barisal group equipped with hockey sticks, machetes, iron rods attacked rival group activists and followers of general secretary of the Patuakhali belt Raihan Ahmed Rimon group. After this Rimon group activists were also involved in counter-attack and a chase and counter chase took place between the two groups in the PSTU campus. During the clash the attackers ransacked 30 rooms of Sher-e-Bangla and M Karamat Ali residential halls. Informed, a platoon of police led by Patuakhali ASP (Sadar Circle) Saheb Ali Pathan arrived at the campus early yesterday to control the situation. Of the injured BCL activist Tamim was admitted to PSTU medical centre. When his condition deteriorated further Tamim was shifted to Barisal Sher-e-Bangla Medical College Hospital. Other injured were released from medical centre after taking first aid.
