85th birthday of Kamal Lohani celebrated in style

The 85th birthday of eminent journalist, cultural activist and Language Movement veteran Kamal Lohani was celebrated on Tuesday at the National Theatre Hall of Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy (BSA) in the capital.

Alongside renowned personalities and members of various social and cultural organisations of the country, people from different walks of life attended the celebration to greet Kamal Lohani--the head of news of Swadhin Bangla Betar Kendra, former director general of BSA and former president of Bangladesh Udichi Shilpigoshthi. The event titled ‘Pochashite Kamal Lohani’ was arranged in association with Shilpakala Academy.

Among others, Cultural Affairs Minister Asaduzzaman Noor, Social Welfare Minister Rashed Khan Menon and eminent lawyer Barrister M Amir-ul Islam were present at the event and greeted Kamal Lohani on his birthday.

A large number of people from different strata paid love and respect to Kamal Lohani and greeted him with flowers after the inauguration of the event at the lobby of BSA’s National Theatre Hall. Then, the programme at the main auditorium hosted a documentary screening, presentation of life-oriented ‘Poter Gaan’ and cultural performance by eminent artistes featuring recitation, dance and Kamal Lohani’s favourite songs.

Moreover, an exhibition with 85 photos photographs highlighting the illustrious life and career of Kamal Lohani also held at the venue.
