Korean support for nursing institute appreciated

State Minister for Health Zahid Maleque on Monday expressed gratitude to the Korean government for their tremendous support to establish post graduate nursing institute and its smooth operation, reports UNB. He was addressing at the country's first ever nursing post-graduation ceremony held at the newly established 'National Institute of Advanced Nursing Education and Research' (NIANER) as the chief guest.

Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA), marking the event, said this is the historical moment for Bangladesh nursing education sector. A total number of 36 MSc nursing students have successfully completed their post-graduation courses from NIANER on six major subjects.

Chairman of Parliamentary Standing Committee of Ministry of Jute and Textiles Saber Hossain Chowdhury was present at the event as special guest.

The project was initiated by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina to establish an advanced higher level nursing education centre in Bangladesh in order to develop knowledgeable and qualified nurses and fulfill the shortage in this noble profession.

KOICA supported to execute the PM's dream project “Establishment of the National Institute of Advanced Practice Nurses in Bangladesh” with a budget of US$13.75 million grants aid, said a press release.

Saber Hossain also thanked the Korean government and emphasized to maintain the quality of education and produce the next generation's nursing leader from this institution.

Deputy Country Director of KOICA Bae Jin-Hyeon expressed his gratitude to Bangladesh government for continuous support in making the project increasingly successful.

He hoped that this institution will be able to produce skilled manpower in nursing sector to meet the local demands and also ensure decent jobs at home and abroad.
