The University Grants Commission (UGC) has decided to award 165 meritorious students from public and private universities with the Prime Minister Gold Medal-2017 in recognition of their academic achievements, reports UNB. The decision was taken at a Steering Committee meeting held at the UGC on Tuesday with its Chairman Prof Abdul Mannan in the chair, said a press release. The UGC Chairman said the gold medals will be awarded to 165 students -- 163 from public and two from private universities -- for securing the highest marks/CGPA in their respective faculties. He also said Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is expected to hand over the gold medals among the recipients at a ceremony which will be held at a convenient time of the Prime Minister. UGC Members Prof Dr Mohammad Yousuf Ali Mollah, Prof Dr Dil Afroza Begum, Prof Dr Md Akhtar Hossain and Prof Dr M Shah Nowaz Ali, and Secretary Dr Md Khaled were present.
