Hindu community celebrated Janmashtami yesterday across the country to mark the birth of Lord Krishna. Different socio-cultural and religious organisations chalked out elaborate programmes to mark the day. Our Tangail correspondent says: A colourful rally and discussion meeting were arranged in Tangail under the auspices of International Society for Krishna Consciousness (ISKC). The procession, participated by thousands of devotees, paraded the main streets of the town.
The discussion was presided over by the Chairperson of ISKC Bishwanath Saha. Among others, executive engineer of Works and Housing Bijoy Kumer Mandal, secretary of Hindu-Buddha-Christian Oikkya Parisad of district unit Sadhan Chakrabarty spoke on the occasion.
Traditional puja, recitation from the Gita and singing of devotional songs were the highlights of the day.
Our Mymensingh correspondent reports: A colourful procession, joined by hundreds of devotees, attired as deities in the ancient Hindu pantheon, attracted many enthusiastic onlookers. The procession was brought out from Durgabari Temple and paraded the main thoroughfares of the town.
Different institutions, including Durgabari Temple, Pranob Math, Zila Puja Udjapan Parishad, Hindu-Buddhist-Christian Oikya Parishad and representatives of the temples of the town and outside, joined the celebration.
Deputy Commissioner Mustakim Billah Faruqui inaugurated the day’s pogramme as chief guest. A discussion was held at the premises of Durgabari Temple where the speakers said Lord Krishna came into this world to vanquish evil and establish society free from oppression and repression.
Lord Krishna's teachings should be disseminated among the devotees so that communal harmony can be assured, they added.
In BOGRA: To celebrate the occasion, the Puja Udjapan Parishad district unit committee organised different programmes. The daylong programme was inaugurated with the lighting of a Mangal Pradip [auspicious light] at Chelopara Temple early yesterday. Later, a colourful procession paraded the main streets of the district headquarters.
Over thousands of devotees of the Hindu community participated in a Janmashtami rally, inaugurated by deputy commissioner Asraf Uddin, superintendent of Police Asaduzzaman, district Awami League president Momotaj Uddin.
A discussion meeting was organised at Aminul Haque Auditorium in Bogra Zila School.
The speakers asserted that Lord Krishna inspired mankind to live in harmony and love. They emphasised the necessity of maintaining communal harmony across the country.
Later, artistes performed music. Religious songs (Kirtan) were also performed in Chelopara, the central temple in the district headquarters.
The curtains came down with the giving away of awards to the winners of different cultural competitions.
In Habiganj: The day was celebrated with due religious fervour and jubilation. A procession displaying the events of the life of Krishna was brought out in Habiganj town. A meeting was held at Mahaprobhur Akhra before the procession.
The Hindu community leaders said in their speech, Lord Krishna was born to safeguard the good and pious people from the hands of evils to establish truth, justice and love in the society.
In Noakhali: The day was celebrated with due religious fervour and enthusiasm.The day's programme started with a rally at 10am from the ISCKON Temple at Datterhat of Sadar upazila. Anupam Barua, additional deputy magistrate and Elias Sharif, superintendent
of police led the rally that ended at Ram Thakur Ashram at Maijdee Bazaar of the district. Different socio-cultural and religious organisations joined the rally in observance of the Janmashtami.
Later, a discussion was held where the speakers extended their greetings to all citizens of the country on the occasion.
In Jessore: Bangladesh Puja Udjapon Parishad, Jessore unit, brought out a procession from Ramkrishna mission Ashram with placards , banner, festoons, traditional motifs and ended at town hall maidan, where drama scenes were displayed on events of life and works of the Lard Krishna.
In Gaibandha: Different Hindu religious organisations chalked out elaborate programmes in the district. The programmes included Puja, Kirtan and recitation from the Hindu holy book Geeta, reports BSS.
