Janmashtami, one of the major religious festivals of the Hindu Community marking the birthday of Lord Sree Krishna, was celebrated amid festive and joyful atmosphere. In Khulna, different organisations, including Bangladesh Puja Udjapan Parishad Khulna city and district units chalked out elaborate programmes to celebrate the day. According to Hindu faith, Sree Sree Krishna, the incarnation of God, descended to this world some 5,500 years ago with a vow to establish love, truth and justice. Devotees on this day celebrate his ‘birth’ on earth. The programme included prayers to Krishna, puja, discussion, padabali kirtan, Geeta Jaggyam (special prayers), devotional songs in praise of Krishna, drama, cultural function and distribution of ‘Prasad’ at different temples in the city. A colourful Janmashtami rally and procession led by lawmaker of Khulna sadar constituency Mizanur Rahman Mizan was brought out that paraded the main roads of the city. After the rally discussion meeting were held at Arja Dharmoshava Temple and ISKCON Temple, Gallamari in the city. Deputy Commissioner (DC) of Khulna Md Mostafa Kamal and Additional Deputy Commissioner (revenue) of Khulna Diponkar Biswas were present as special guests. Members of intelligent agencies, plainclothes and uniformed police, Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) and Rapid Action Battalion (Rab-6) were deployed and metal detectors were used as part of the security measures.
Devotees gathered at the temples from morning to offer their prayers to Lord Krishna. BSS adds from Narayanganj: Members of Hindu community here today celebrated Janmashtami, the birthday of lord krishna, with festivity and fanfare.
The district unit of Bangladesh Puja Udjapan Parishad brought out a colorful procession from Deobhog Lakhinarayan Akhra in the city at 10 am. About a dozen arches were set up in different parts of the city welcoming the Janmashtami Celebration.

Hindu community celebrated ‘Janmastami’, one of their major religious festivals marking the birth anniversary of Lord Sri Krishna in Barisal city yesterday with due religious fervour and enthusiasm. The day’s program began with bringing out a colorful traditional Janmastami procession from Dharmarakkhini Sava in Kalibari Road area of the city at 10 am with musical instruments, placards, banners, festoons, traditional motifs, displays and drama scenes on life and works of the lord Krishna. Advocate Talukdar Eynus MP inaugurated the procession as the chief guest while Rakha Chandra Dye, president of Dharma Rakkhini Sava, presided over the inaugural function at Line Road of the city.
