Leaders Abahani won’t take any team lightly

Wicketleeper-batsman Anamul Haque Bijoy said Monday that they will not take any team lightly as all the teams of the Dhaka Premier League (DPL) are formed well and appeared at this stage of the league by playing better cricket.

Abahani, 17-time DPL champions team, lost three matches including two back-to-back matches of the last five matches of the first phase after their jay-dropping beginning. If they wouldn’t lose those matches, the scenario of the league would since be different.

“It’s true that the championship is not too far. The six teams of the Super League are very good and come to the Super Six phase by playing better cricket. I think, we should not take any game lightly,” said Anamul Haque Bijoy.

“In one-day cricket, if two batsmen could bat well or two bowlers could bowl well, the opposition has to then struggle hard to win the match.  I think we should be serious. Along with that, if we could win two successive matches, it would then be easier for us to clinch the DPL championship,” Anamul told media.

“Those two matches we have ahead that are very much important for us. As the next match will be against Sheikh Jamal, they’ve some good players including their foreign recruitment, who performed well in the last matches. I think we should be stayed serious and take it as a usual match,” he added.

At Khan Shaheb Osman Ali Stadium, Abahani will take on Sheikh Jamal Dhanmondi Club, while Khelaghar Samaj Kallyan Samity will face off Gazi Group Cricketers at BKSP-3 and Legends of Rupganj will compete against Prime Doleshwar Sporting Club at Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in the second round fixtures of the Super League today. Bijoy, who has been struggling to be regular in the national fold, described Abahani as a team like a national team, stating that the oppositions feel an extra pressure when they get down playing against Abahani Limited.

“Every player of our team has a touch of the national jersey. We’ve players from Under-19, A team, two national openers, two each national strike pacers and spinners coupled with middle-order batsmen. Almost it’s a team like a national team,” the 25-year-old lad said.

“Of course, the name is a big fact. There are good performers here that are a big matter in Premier League. Beside the Premier League, they are regularly playing well in one-day,” he added.

“Actually almost all the players are proved players. For this reason, the game for us has been become easier. When we play against a team, they must feel an additional pressure. We try to capitalise this thing and attempt to perform in our way,” the right-hander said citing the names of Mashrafe Bin Mortaza, Nasir Hossain, Mithun, Saikat, Taskin and Miraj.

This wicketkeeper-batsman said that he is attempting his best to improve himself so he could perform regularly and contribute to the team’s cause.

“Day by day, I’m trying to improve myself. I’ve tried to keep a little bit places to work on. I’ve tried to increase the intensity of the improvement. I’m trying to play for the team and perform regularly,” he opined.

“Each match is an opportunity for a batsman or bowler. I think I’ll try to utilize it if any chance comes to me. There is nothing above hard work or effort. I’m going to try. I’ll give my hundred percent if I get any chance,” he continued.

Expressing his regret for missing to make big score in some matches after being set at wickets, Bijoy said that the graph of his scoring would be 600 or 650-plus runs if he could do make runs in some matches.

“In some matches, I’ve dismissed after being set at wickets. I could have extended my score in some matches.  I’ve scored 500 runs in 11 matches. If I do average it could be 50 if I think so that’s right for me. I think, if I could play in three matches, it could then be 600 or 650. The matches Abahani lost if I could contribute some more it would be better for me. Overall, we’ve four matches ahead, where I’ll get chance to improve my score if I could do that then I think the tournament has been better for me,” he thought.
