Bangladesh to play first practice match today

The tri-nation series involving Sri Lanka, Zimbabwe and Bangladesh is going to take place in Bangladesh after an eight-year-long hiatus. Last time the series at home yard was taken place in 2010 with the participation of the same teams, whereby Sri Lanka had clinched the trophy.  

This time with the match between Bangladesh and Zimbabwe, the curtain of the series will be raised at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium (SBNCS) in Mirpur on January 15.

Keeping the seven-match series in mind, Bangladesh are taking their best possible preparation to lift the trophy what they are yet to triumph.  

Despite being played some more tri-nation series at home and away, they had played a tri-nation series in Ireland before the last ICC Champions Trophy, England-2017. Though Bangladesh played in the final, they conceded defeat to New Zealand.

As a part of it, they are scheduled to play two practice matches, the first of which will be played at the SBNCS at 12:00pm today.

Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) meanwhile announced a 24-member squad, splitting into BCB Red XI and BCB Green XI, for the first one-day practice match.

Bangladesh Test and T20 skipper Shakib Al Hasan will lead BCB Red, whilst Bangladesh ODI skipper Mashrafe Bin Mortaza will guide BCB Green.

BCB Red comprises of Tamim Iqbal, Anamul Haque Bijoy, Shakib Al Hasan (c), Mushfiqur Rahim, Mahmudullah Riyad, Sabbir Rahman Rumman, Sunzamul Islam, Ariful Haque, Taskin Ahmed, Abu Haider Rony, Rubel Hossain and Abul Hasan Raju.

And Imrul Kayes, Soumya Sarkar, Liton Kumar Das, Mohammad Mithun, Nazmul Hossain Shanto, Nasir Hossain, Mehedi Hasan Miraz, Mashrafe Bin Mortaza (c), Mohammad Saifuddin, Abu Jayed Rahi, Mustafizur Rahman and Nazmul Islam Apu are in the BCB Green.

It is learnt that BCB-selection panel will whittle down the squad to 18-20 from the 32-man preliminary squad.

The second and last practice match will be held at the same ground on January 9. And then, the selector will announce the final squad for the tri-nation series.

The selectors therefore will form another squad for the one-off practice match against Zimbabwe which will kick off on January 13 prior to the outset of the tri-nation series with the rest of the preliminary squad along with two more squad players.
