The world agrees on community of shared future for mankind

Looking back on the major-country diplomacy with Chinese characteristics in 2017, we can easily define a distinctive and consistent theme—building of a community of shared future for mankind.

In the past year, China has successfully turned the concept of a community of shared future for mankind into a global consensus. It was included in a series of United Nations (UN) resolutions, marking a historic breakthrough in China’s diplomacy. On February 10, 2017, the 55^th Session of the Commission for Social Development adopted the resolution “Social Dimensions of New Partnerships for Africa’s Development”. This was the first UN resolution to include the concept of “building a community of shared future for mankind”. On March 17, the UN Security Council adopted Resolution 2344 on Afghanistan issues, which was the first resolution to include the concept of building a community of shared future for mankind. Then, on March 23, the 34^th Session of the UN Human Rights Council adopted two resolutions on “economic, social and cultural rights” and “the right to food”, which were the first UN Human Rights Council resolutions to include the concept of building a community of shared future for mankind.

Over the past year, China wrote a new chapter in history with the building of a community of shared future for mankind. First, we held the Belt and Road Forum for International Cooperation, at which the building of a community of shared future for mankind was recognized as the common goal of all involved parties. Second, the CPC in Dialogue with World Political Parties High-Level Meeting was held for an in-depth discussion around the theme of “Working Together towards a Community with a Shared Future for Mankind and a Better World: Responsibilities of Political Parties”. Third, China established the South-South Human Rights Forum, which advocates development through cooperation, the promotion of human rights through development and the building of a community of shared future for mankind. These new platforms will pool together both wisdom and strength to achieve common development goals through joint consultations.

In the past year, China took a big step forward to make the concept of a community of shared future for mankind take roots in neighbouring countries and regions. China strengthened connectivity and development cooperation with other countries and properly solved many major practical issues. Through these multilateral mechanisms and a package of related measures, China enhanced strategic ties with the ASEAN states including Laos and Vietnam.

The concept of a community of shared future for mankind embodies the common values of the world. In 2017, China took solid actions to bring together global forces. In the future, China will continue to make real contributions to human society.
