In recognition of noteworthy contribution to the different fields of the country’s music scene, ‘12th Channel i Music Award’, the biggest musical arrangement in the country, was conferred on the eligible singers and musicians on Friday.
This year, different awards in as many as 18 categories under two segments–critics and popular choice award–were handed over to the winners at a star-studded ceremony at the Bangabandhu International Conference Centre in the capital.
Veteran music singer Khurshid Alam was bestowed with the lifetime achievement award for his immense contribution to the country’s music arena this year at the 12th edition of the award ceremony. Renowned singer Ferdousi Rahman handed over the crest to Khurshid Alam, while singer Syed Abdul Hadi, Transcom Beverage Limited deputy managing director Khurshid Irfan Chowdhury and managing director of Channel i Faridur Reza Sagor handed over certificate, cheque, and uttorio to the veteran singer.
Khurshid Alam expressed his instant feelings upon receiving the award, “I feel very proud being honoured with this lifetime achievement award in my lifespan.”
For her special contribution to the country’s music, popular singer Shammi Akhter was honoured with a special award worth taka 50 thousand at the ‘Channel i Music Award’ this year. On behalf of her, Shammi Akhter’s husband Akramul Islam and her daughter received the award.
Music director Alauddin Ali, Sheikh Saadi Khan, Alam Khan and Ali Hossain were also honoured at the event.
Winners of the Critic Awards are--Rabindra Sangeet: Anima Roy (album-Matribhumi), Nazrul Sangeet: Nashid Kamal (album- Gane Gane Nazruler Jiboni), People’s song: Shofi Mondol (album-Adhora), Modern song: Fahmida Nabi (album-Sada Kalo), Novice singer: Mehedy Hasan (‘Ichche gulo Raji), Music director: Shafiq Tuhin (‘Neel Simanay’), Best lyricist: Asif Iqbal (‘Tui Amar Mon Bhalore’), Music video: Tanim Rahman Angshu (Jhum), Cover design: Nahid (Nokshi Kathar Gaan), Sound Engineer: Pavel Arin (Kheyal Poka), Classical Music: Priyanka Gope (Thumri), Best band: Parthib (album-Swagoto Bangladesh), Playback song: James (Bidhata).
Popular Choice Award winners-- Modern song: Kumar Biswajit (album- Swapno Samuddor), Novice singer: Shahin Khan (Ankora), Best band: Onscure (Crack Platoon), Playback song: Imran (Alto Chhoyate ) and Music Video: Rommo Khan (album-Meghera).
Besides the prize giving ceremony, an array of dazzling performances featuring novice and veteran artistes of the country enthralled the audience present at the grand event.
