Film on Shah Abdul Karim to be released in UK

‘Ronger Duniya’ (Life of Colors)’, a film based on the life of Baul Shah Abdul Karim directed by Muktadir Ibna Salam, will be released in the cinemas of three different cities of the United Kingdom (UK) from September 3. Initiated by Bengali Film Club UK, Bengali films will be screened on a regular basis in this three cities of England from now on. The Boleyn Cinema Hall of London will host the maiden show of the film on September 3.

The film revolves around the life struggle of Abdul Karim and the musical journey of this legendary musician, who is also known as Baul Samrat.

In the film, singer-turned-actor Agun will appear as Abdul Karim, where he will portray the young stage as well as the old stage of Karim’s life. The other casts of the film include Khairul Alam Sabuj, Swadhin Khasru, Jhuna Chowdhury, Farzana Chhobi, Shirin Bakul and others.

The Film Club UK will start on September 3 and 4 in Birmingham. Bangalees living in the UK are being deprived of watching good Bengali films due to lack facilities of film screening. They took the initiative to encourage Bangalees and non-Bangalees to watch and learn more about Bengali movies.

To note, Shah Abdul Karim (February 15, 1916 — September 12, 2009) was a Baul musician from Bangladesh. Baul Shah authored about 1500 songs and some six books. The Bangla Academy translated 10 of his songs into English. Karim has stolen the hearts of millions by presenting some hit numbers like, ‘Jhilmil Jhilmil Korey’, ‘Bonde Maya Lagaichhe’, ‘Keno Piritee Barailarey Bondhu’, ‘Gari Cholena Cholena’, ‘Ami Kulhara Kolonkini’, ‘Agey Ki Sundor Din Kataitham’, ‘Bosonto Batasey Soigo’ and ‘Krishno Aaila Radhar Kunje’. He was awarded the 2001 Ekushey Padak for his outstanding musical achievements. He also received the Drouhee Kotha-Shahitayk Abdur Rouf Choudhury Award in 2000. He died in Sylhet on 12 September 2009 due to respiratory problems. l
