The journalist learned from the CRRC Qingdao Sifang that a prototype of a mounted monorail train with a designed speed of 80 kilometers per hour and a maximum operating speed of 70 kilometers per hour, now rolled off the production line and being tested and in trail operation. The train is the fastest of its kind in China,
The mounted monorail train is also called “sky train” or “air track” train. It is a rising new transportation featuring light weight, intermediate speed and low manufacturing cost which is suitable for scenic spots, mountain areas and cities with a huge market potential. A mounted monorail train runs along an overhead monorail and it will neither be affected by the severe weather condition, such as rain storm or snow, nor has a risk of running off the track. The train has equipped a variety of positive and passive safety devices.
Liu Yuwen, the deputy director of CRRC Qingdao Sifang Technique Center, said that the mounted monorail trains are designed by them. They own the full independent intellectual property rights. The train has the flexibility of being marshalled into 3 to 5 train sets and can carry 300 to 510 people.
