US Pacific commander calls on Army chief

Commander of US Pacific command Admiral Harry B Harris, Junior has called on Chief of Army Staff General Abu Belal Muhammad Shafiul Huq at the Army Headquarters in Dhaka Cantonment yesterday.

Admiral Harry has exchanged greetings and discussed matters of bilateral interest during their talks.

Before the call on, Admiral Harry paid tribute to the members of the Armed Forces, who embraced martyrdom during the War of Liberation in 1971, placing wreath at the 'Shikha Anirban' at Dhaka Cantonment.

He also visited the Bangladesh Institute of Peace Support Operation Training (BIPSOT) at Rajendrapur Cantonment in Gazipur yesterday.

He is scheduled to call on Bangladesh Air Force Chief Marshal Abu Esrar at 9:45 am on Sunday at its headquarters in Dhaka cantonment.

The US Pacific Commander will also call on chief of Bangladesh Navy Admiral Nizamuddin Ahmed at 10:40 am on the same day at Navy headquarters in city's Banani area. He will also call on Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.

Admiral Harry, who heads an 18-member delegation, arrived in Dhaka on a three-day visit Saturday. Area Commander of Logistic Area of Bangladesh Army Major General Ataul Hakim Sarwar received the delegation at the Zia International Airport.

He will leave Dhaka on Sunday evening.
