Furniture stores offer Eid discounts

Furniture manufacturers are offering attractive discounts to gain from the Eid shopping rush, with customers thronging the city’s showrooms and markets. Renowned furniture stores are offering concessions this year to grab customer attention as Eid draws near, although this season is perfect for clothes, shoes and jewellery.
During a visit to different parts of Dhaka city yesterday, this correspondent found salespersons from renowned furniture showrooms such as Hatil, Partex, and Nadia were busy attending to potential customers.
Several showroom managers said their sales were quite satisfactory this year because of a good collection of trendy and fashionable furniture.
Tareq Aziz, general manager (marketing) of the Partex Star Group, said: “We've launched a marketing campaign this Eid. Partex Furniture is offering 18 per cent discount, depending on the price of the product.”
“For some products, we're offering 10 per cent discount. The discount will be available till the Chaad Raat (before the sighting of the new moon)," he added.
About the prevailing trends during this festival season, Tareq Aziz said new designs of wooden furniture were much in demand. Wooden furniture is manufactured entirely with the help of machines, he added.
Sofa sets dining tables, and beds are selling well this festival season, he noted. “Furniture sales have shot up by 50 per cent over last year’s Eid festival,” he said.
Nahid Yusuf, assistant general manager (brand) of the Partex Group, told The Independent that Partex Furniture generally manufactured three types of furniture—solid wooden furniture, board furniture, and steel furniture—since the inception of the company.
Nadia, a local furniture manufacturing brand, is offering 20 per cent discount on some of its products in all their 26 showrooms across the country. Hedayetullah, sales manager of Nadia Furniture, said: “Nadia is offering up to 20 per cent discounts for this Eid festival. This offer will be valid till June 30.”
“We're offering 20 per cent discount on home furniture, 12 per cent on office furniture, and 8 per cent on metal and steel furniture throughout this festival month," he added.
Lokman, sales executive of Nadia Furniture, said, “Our sales have increased by 20–30 per cent compared to last year. So far, we have sold two types of products very well—home furniture and bedroom furniture.”
Besides home furniture, Nadia also provides workstation solutions for office setups, desk installation and auditorium chairs.
When asked about the export market, Hedayetullah said Russian and Malaysian buyers liked their products and export orders were being negotiated.
A sales executive of Brothers furniture, speaking on condition of anonymity, said five different categories of products, such as home furniture, office furniture, doors, mattress, and lifestyle items, were being offered in this Eid festival. Other prominent furniture brands such as Hatil, Otobi and Brothers Furniture have also come up with some promotional offers. Hatil is offering 5–15 per cent discounts, while Brothers furniture is offering discounts up to 15 per cent on specific products. Otobi has cut prices up to 27 per cent till the 26th of this month. The furniture industry is a growing sector in Bangladesh. According to the Bangladesh Furniture Industries Owners' Association (BFIOA) data, around two million people work in approximately 40,000 enterprises in this sector. Export Promotion Bureau (EPB) sources said that there were massive furniture export opportunities and the government had decided to give a 15 per cent tax incentive for furniture exports.
