BNP on Wednesday sent a formal letter to Bangabhaban seeking President Abdul Hamid’s appointment to submit to him its chairperson’s 13-point proposal on constituting and strengthening the Election Commission (EC).
A BNP team, comprising its assistant office secretaries Munir Hossain and Belal Hossain and assistant publicity secretary Asadul Karim Shaheen, took the letter to the presidential place around 4:15pm, said BNP chairperson’s media wing member Sayrul Kabir Khan.
He said security officers at the Bangabhaban gate received the letter.
Earlier in the day, BNP secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir said they are going to send a formal letter seeking the President’s appointment to hand over Khaleda Zia’s proposals to the President, as there was no response from Bangabhaban to their earlier phone call to this end.
Speaking at a press briefing at BNP’s Nayapaltan central office, he said, “Our chairperson’s personal secretary had phoned the President’ s military secretary seeking a schedule so that a three-member BNP delegation can submit her proposals to the President. But, he still didn’t respond.”
As a guardian of the State, Fakhrul said, they hope President Abdul Hamid will give a schedule for the BNP delegation to meet him.unb
