Local fishermen found a dead dolphin on Kuakata sea beach of Patuakhali district on Sunday morning.
Local people said, the dolphin, about 5-foot-long long and 2 feet wide, had injury marks on its mouth and body and they suspected that the dolphin might have died after being hit by fishing nets.
Abdullah Al Mamun, Divisional Forest Officer, Patuakhali Coastal Forest Department, said, “The dolphin belongs to the Ganges river dolphin species which live on eating fish. It might have died after being hit by fishing nets.”
“The fishermen are being trained to protect dolphins,” he added.
