A bundle of nylon thread has led the police to the murder of actress Raima Islam Shimu within 24 hours of the case filing.
During the investigation police collected clues from the house of Shimu and the spot where the body was found.
The body inside two sacks were sewn with nylon thread. A bundle of the same nylon thread was found in Shimu's husband Shakhawat Alim Nobel’s car, said a DMP media release.
The car was washed and bleaching powder was sprinkled, which led the police to be further suspicious.
Police immediately arrested Nobel and his companion SM Farhad.
After extensive interrogation at Keraniganj Model Police Station, Nobel and Farhad confessed to murder.
Nobel said that he strangled his wife to death due to a family feud on Sunday (Jan 16). Later he called Farhad to help him remove the body from the house.
That evening they first went to Mirpur where they couldn’t find a suitable place for dumping. They finally threw the body in the bushes, 300 yards away from Alipur Bridge in the Kadamtali area of Hazratpur union of Keraniganj.
The police said that both the arrestees are drug addicts and unemployed.
Abu Salam Mia, the officer-in-charge of Keraniganj Model Police Station, said local people spotted the body near Alipur Bridge in the Kadamtoli area of the upazila around 10am on Monday and informed cops.
“The body bore several injury marks. We suspect that she was killed on Sunday and her body was later dumped in the area," the officer said.
Fatema, the younger sister of the actress, said, “Shimu left her residence around 9am on Sunday and had been missing since. We lodged a missing person's complaint on Sunday night."
A Dhaka court on Tuesday placed the husband of the 41-year-old actress and Farhad on a 3-day remand each in a case filed after recovery of her body in a sack.
Earlier in the day, Shimu’s brother Harunur Rashid filed the case against her husband Ali Nobel and his companion SM Farhad along with some anonymous people at Keraniganj Model police station.
Shimu worked with many renowned film directors after making her debut in 1998.
