A writ petition was filed with High Court yestreday seeking a stay order on the December-30 municipality elections, citing errors in some rules of the amended Local Government (Municipality) Election Rules, 2010, reports UNB. Supreme Court lawyer SM Zulfiqar Ali Junu filed the petition also praying for halting the allocation of symbols among the candidates. Petitioner’s counsel Barrister Ehanur Rahman said there are some errors in the sections of the Local Government (Municipality) Election Rules, 2010, which were amended on November 23 last, regarding the symbol allocation. Many candidates faced difficulties while filling out their nominations forms, he said. The writ sought a rule on the government to explain as to why the latest amendment to the Local Government (Municipality) Election Rules, 2010 should not be declared illegal for having errors. The petition sought HC directives for amending the errors and a stay order on the election process until the rule is disposed of.
