Awami League general secretary Syed Ashraful Islam yesterday urged the young generation to come forward to make Bangladesh a non-communal country, reports UNB. “I believe you (youths) have that capability and merit,” he said while addressing a discussion at the Institution of Engineers, Bangladesh (IEB) in the capital. Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) organised the programme marking the Martyred Intellectuals Day. Presided over by BCL president Saifur Rahman Sohagh, the discussion was addressed, among others, by National University Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Harun-or-Rashid and martyred intellectual Dr Alim Chowdhury’s daughter Dr Nuzhat Chowdhury. Ashraf, also the Public Administration Minister, said the Pakistani occupation forces and their collaborators had killed the intellectuals with a motive to cripple Bangladesh intellectually. Without elaboration, he said new war criminals are emerging in the country. The Awami League leader also urged the youth to hold the sprit of liberation war.
