Rohingyas get another community centre in Ukhiya

A community centre was opened on Monday at Kutu Palong in Cox's Bazar's Ukhiya upazila to solve the social problems of Rohingya refugees.     

Brac set up the centre with the supported of the UNHCR, the UN Refugee Agency.

Steps would be taken through the centre – under the Community-Based Protection (CBP) programme – so that Rohingyas can protect themselves and solve their own social problems, Brac said.

Camp-in-charge Kazi Shamim inaugurated the centre at camp 18.

The centre will play four roles – community centre, information service, community group and community outreach member.

Earlier, Brac set up 10 such community-based centres in Teknaf and Ukhiya upazilas between 2017 and 2020.

Around 53,498 people received services from these centres until 2020 through awareness programme on radio and construction of audio-visual and recreation centres.

Also, 45,133 people were provided with information service.
