Swapno, Agora, Meena Bazaar fined
products sans mfg date, price tag

The Directorate of National Consumers Right Protection (DNCRP) has fined three lifestyle retail outlets Swapno, Agora and Meena Bazaar for selling products at higher prices, for not having date of production and maximum retail price on the labels. DNCRP, a quasi-judicial government department responsible for hearing and addressing consumer complaints, conducted drives at Ramna in the capital yesterday and fined those outlets 40 thousand taka each.
DNCRPs Dhaka divisional office Deputy Director Monjur Mohammad Shahriar sent the team for drive when assistant director Masum Arefin and Afroza Rahman were present during the crackdown. Talking to The Independent Shahriar said that the super shops were found selling products which lacked date of manufacture and maximum retail price.
Official fined 40 thousand taka each of the outlets. There were also discrepancies in the price tags of the same product. It is a massive case of fraudulence against the consumers. Members of the Armed Police Battalion (APBN) -11, assisted in the drives. Earlier, last month DNCRP fined chain shop Aarong Tk 4.5 lakh for discrepancies in the price tags of the same product. Following a clients complaint that Aarong was selling a panjabi after nearly doubling its price, DNCRP officials visited the chains flagship store on Jashimuddin Avenue at Uttara and fined them.
Later, Shahriar came to spotlight after the drive when the government issued a sudden transfer order which was widely criticised by people online. Again, within 12 hours of being ordered to transfer to Khulna, Shahriar experienced a twist of bureaucracy which may not lead to his transfer.
