Speakers at a consultation workshop observed yesterday that development and implementation of pragmatic policies and programs could ensure environmental security and sustainability for the nation, reports BSS. They were addressing the consultation workshop on Country’s Investment Plan (CIP) for Environment, Forestry and Climate Change (EFCC) held at a hotel in Khulna with Director of Directorate of Environment (DoE) Dr Mallick Anwar Hossain in the chair. Additional Divisional Commissioner Faruk Hossain attended the programme as the chief guest.
The workshop is being held under the joint auspices of the Ministry of Environment and Forests (MoEF) and the ministry’s project for ‘Strengthening the Environment, Forestry and Climate Change Capacities and MoEF and its Agencies’. The project is being implemented with the support of FAO and funding from the USAID,
The workshop aimed at sharing knowledge amongst stakeholders on the ongoing process to formulate the Bangladesh CIP for Environment, Forestry and Climate Change.
Additional deputy commissioner (General) of Khulna Depankar Biswas, Senior Advisor and National Team leader of the project Md Shaheduzzaman attended the workshop as special guests. International Consultant Dr Shahin Yaqub and National Consultant Shah Mohammad Mahboob presented draft CIP.
A total of 100 officials, representatives from different Government, non government offices, Academic institutions, research organizations, civil society organizations and journalists participated in the workshop.
The speakers underscored the need for commitment from policy makers and professionals to make the CIP effective and executable.
The chief guest said with the making of the Padma Bridge and Mongla Port operational
the country’s economical development would change rapidly.
He expressed his confidence on the approach adopted by the project team that it would certainly bring about a realistic and operational CIP, allowing all concerned stakeholders to contribute.
