Chairman of the Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission (BTRC) Sunil Kanti Bose on Monday said mobile phone subscribers who have already registered their SIMs in a proper way do not need to reregister those again.
“All the SIMs won’t be registered anew. Those who have already registered their SIMs in a proper way don’t need to go through the process again,” he said.
Observing that some distributors and retailers are using SIMs with fake registration, he said those using SIMs without or with fake registration have to reregister those again.
The BRTC boss was replying to queries from reporters at his office following media reports that SIM re-registration is a must for all mobile phone users by the end of this year.
Sunil Kanti said they had a meeting with the ministry concerned in this regard on Monday. “I don’t think all the 13 crore SIMs are fake. Only fake, anonymous and unregistered SIM cards have to come under the registration process.”
He also said BTRC will continue its drive to stop illegal use of mobile technology using fake and unregistered SIMs.unb
