China maintains very good relations with both the ruling Awami League and its rival BNP and both the parties are aware of this, Zhang Xuyi, deputy director of the Asian Bureau of the International Department of Communist Party of China (CPC), said Wednesday.

Briefing a group of journalists from 14 neighbouring countries in the headquarters of the international department, Zhang said that apart from the two major parties China is maintaining party to party relations with some leftist parties in Bangladesh.

International Department of CPC is responsible for maintaining party to party relations with other countries while state level relations are maintained by foreign ministry.

Narrating the nature of the party to party relations, he said China maintains such relations with 600 parties of 160 countries across the world. “We invite them to visit China and we also exchange delegates,” he said adding that equality, independence, non-interference and mutual respects are the basis of the party to party relations.

In this regard, he pointed out that unlike other big countries the situation in China's neighbourhood is more complicated with the existence of terrorism in Pakistan and Afghanistan, separatism in central Asia, border dispute between India and Pakistan.

China has 30 neighbours of which it has land borders with 14 countries. He said the party to party relations is a crucial to China‘s foreign policy and reports of dialogue and opinion exchange with parties of other countries are submitted to CPC central committee.

“Such exchange is also benefits us to enhance our knowledge,” he added. Replying to a question Zhang said China is eager to establish diplomatic relations with Bhutan and negotiations are on to this effect.
