Bangladesh is a darling site of nature. Many natural sites, like the longest beach at Cox’s Bazar, the Sundarbans, Sajek Valley in Bandarban, Kaptai Lake in Rangamati, Ratargul and Bichanakandi in Sylhet, are filled with beauty. Like them, Tanguar Hoar in Sunamganj is another wonder of nature.
Tanguar Haor, located at Dharmapasha and Tahirpur upazilas of Sunamganj, is a unique wetland ecosystem of national importance and it has come into international focus. The area of Tanguar Haor, including 46 villages within the haor, is about 100 square kilometres. It is a source of livelihood for more than 40,000 people.
We, a circle of friends from Comilla University, went for a tour to Sunamganj recently. First, we went to Cumilla Railway Station and reached Sylhet at 9am by Udyan Express, three hours late behind schedule as the train didn't reach Cumilla on time.
After taking breakfast near Sylhet train station, we started for Sunamganj by bus and reached there at 12pm. It took almost two hours to reach Sunamganj town. After getting there, we faced a totally different experience.
To reach our destinations, there was no transport but motorcycles. When we crossed almost 30 kilometres on motorbikes, all tiredness disappeared due to the fresh air and minds thrilled with pleasure.
The bikes kept us on the bank of Jadukata River. We were all amazed seeing the transparent water and sandy riverbed, and the beautiful green hills of the surroundings. By hiring a boat, we crossed the river and climbed one of the hills. From the hilltop, we enjoyed an overall view of the environment.
Then we went to well-known Shimul Garden that occupies a large area. Though the flowers were not blooming yet, the green trees and raw grass pleased us. Then we visited Rajai waterfall near Shimul Garden. The lucid water coming down from the fall dazzled all of us.
The next day, we visited Niladri Lake. Niladri _ the more beautiful the name is, the more alluring the place is. We rented a large boat, and finally, we left for our most exciting destination _ Tanguar Haor.
The marvelous and astonishing natural view on each side of the hoar charmed us all. We found trees diving into the fresh water of the hoar. It was totally a fantastic experience for all of us. Seeing the fresh water of the hoar, we could not resist temptation to take baths. One of our friends, Saiful Islam, who is from the area, guided us all the while.
After completing our adventure, we finally returned to Cumilla at 4am after a 10-hour bus journey.
I have visited so many tourist spots of Bangladesh. But this tour was the most memorable trip of my life.
