On June 12,  a freight train loaded with 850 tons of cargo leaves from Kunming Wangjiaying Container Center and heads for Vietnam's Hai Phong. This marks the launch of the China-Vietnam freight train(Kunming-Lao Cai-Ha Noi-Hai Phong).

The whole trip is 856 kilometers long and will take four to six days. This time, the train carries 32 containers. When it reaches Hekou, a Chinese city on Sino-Vietnam border, these containers will be reloaded to  a vietnam train since the two countries apply different standards in rail gauge.  It is reported that railways in Vietnam are meter-gauge ones which are narrower than the standard-gauge railways in China.

In recent years, the Sino-Vietnam trade volume has been increasing stably . The launch of the freight train will boost infrastructure connectivity between China's Yunnan Province and Vietnam and even other Southeast Asian countries. It will also contribute to China's endeavor to build the province into a pivot of its opening up to South and Southeast Asia.
