Man ‘commits suicide’
stabbing wife
Satkhira: A man allegedly committed suicide after stabbing his wife at Ghona village in Islamkati union of Tala upazila early yesterday, reports UNB.
The deceased was identified as Akhter Ali Morol, son of Gohor Ali Morol of the village.
Hasan Hafizur Rahman, officer-in-charge of Tala Police Station, said that Akhter stabbed his wife Irani Begum indiscriminately while she was sleeping, leaving her critically injured. Later, he hanged himself with a rope from a mango tree nearby his house. Hearing screams of Irani, locals rushed to the spot and took her to Khulna 250-bed hospital. She was later referred to Dhaka as her condition deteriorated.
On information, police recovered the body of Akhter and sent it to Satkhira Sadar Hospital for an autopsy.
The OC said that Akhter was a mentally challenged person.
Schoolboy found dead
Sirajganj: A schoolboy was found hanging in Dakbanglo para of Shahjadpur municipal area on Sunday night, reports UNB.
The deceased was identified as Shishir Ahmed, 12, son of Foyjur Rahman, hailing from Shibganj upazila in Bogra district. The class VII student of a local school used to live in a rented house. Family members found Shishir's hanging body at his room around 10pm and informed police, said Khawaja Golam, officer-in-charge of Shahjadpur Police Station. On information Police recovered the body and sent it to Sirajganj General Hospital for an autopsy.
An unnatural death case was filed in this connection, he added.
UP member sued in drug case
Jessore: A case has been filed against a member of ward no. 9 of Bhojgati union at Monirampur upazila on charge of carrying yaba pills, reports UNB.
Mokarram Hossain, officer-in-charge of Monirampur Police Station, said that Layekuzzaman, sub-inspector of Detective Branch (DB) of police filed the lawsuit on Sunday afternoon against the UP member Khabir Hossain Khurram.
Earlier, a team of DB detained the UP member from Chalkidanga Bazar of the upazila on Saturday afternoon along with 100 pieces of yaba tablets.
50 houses gutted in fire

Around 50 houses of 16 families were gutted in a fire that broke out at Dangabari village in Sadar upazila on Sunday.
Witnesses said the fire originated from the kitchen of a house in the early hours and it soon engulfed the adjoining dwelling establishments.
On information, firefighters rushed in and extinguished the blaze after two and a half hours of efforts, said Abdul Malek, deputy assistant director of Panchagarh Fire Service.
