A Supreme Court lawyer sent a legal notice to the government for forming a judicial probe committee within three days to investigate the arson attack on indigenous people in Longadu upazila of Rangamati on June 2, reports UNB. Supreme Court lawyer Nicolas Chakma sent the notice asking the homer secretary, social welfare secretary, women and children affairs secretary, inspector general of police, deputy inspector of general (Chittagong range), superintendent of police of Rangamati, officer-in-charge of Longadu Police Station, Chittagong hill tracts secretary, deputy commissioner of Rangamati, upazila nirbahi officer of Longaduto respond to the legal notice.
The authorities were asked to take legal steps within 72 hours after getting the notice. The notice said that the probe committee, led by a retired judge of High Court, will investigate weather local administration had any negligence in protecting the indigenous people during the attacks carried out by Bangalee settlers in three villages of Logadu. On June 2, Nurul Islam Nayan, organising secretary of upazila Juba League who used to carry passengers on his bike in exchange for money, was found dead alongside a road in Dighinala upazila in Khagrachhari district.
Following the incident, Bangalee settlers went on a rampage and set fire to over 100 houses in Longadu upazila headquarters and several villages, including Manikjorchhara and Tintila.
