Fast bowler Mustafizur Rahman might not be as successful as it is expected but there is no reason to write him off.According to captain Mashrafe Bin Mortaza, he is going to be the asset of Bangladesh during their mission in 2019 World Cup, to be held in England. He said the experience of Mustafizur, adorably called as ‘The Fizz’ gathers, will work nicely for him during that period because of his desperate intention to learn.
“He will be our main asset in the 2019 World Cup here. He might not be successful this time in the ICC Champions Trophy like what we expected from him but he has learnt a lot. This experience will pay him off during the upcoming World Cup and it will come as good for Bangladesh,” Mashrafe said.
Mustafizur went wicket-less in the first two matches against England and Australia in the ICC Champions Trophy. It was the fourth time but consecutive two times for the time in his career that he remained wicket-less. What was the main problem was that he was dealt with comfortably by the England and Australian batsmen, a rare scene that he tasted in his little career.
However the expectation on him was such high that the fans express their disappointment over his performance through the social media outlet. It’s the thing that Mashrafe termed as a pressure on the young pace bowler.
“He won’t take wicket every time he plays. This sort of expectation increases a pressure on the bowler. Realistically it’s not possible so you need to tone down your expectation,” he said.
“I know he set such standard that the people now want more from him. But still we need to be realistic. He will be decoded by the batsmen as the time passes and so it would be difficult for him to claim wickets every time. So we all need to have patience,” Mashrafe remarked.
The fans who adorably call him “Cutter Master’ or ‘The Fizz’, themselves rule him out from the rank of the best fast bowler at the moment in the world after his abysmal performance in the last two matches. It’s also the thing that angered Mashrafe to great extent.
“Mustafizur certainly will be in the short list of the best fast bowlers at the moment,” Mashrafe protested.
“But he needs to thrive on the wicket like these in England. You can’t expect him to make instant impact. It’s not possible. His cutter will not work in every part of the world. So he needs to hone the art of bowling where his traditional weapon doesn’t fetch any result.”
“He is just 19 or 20. As he will grow older he will know the tricks of bowling in these sorts of wicket. He is a fast learner and that’s why we rate him highly.”
But as the time passes, Mashrafe believes Mustafizur Rahman will be more potent than he is now as he is capable of learning the things faster than anyone else.
“Yes he wasn’t as successful as he is used to be in a wicket where the ball holds a bit. In England it’s difficult to get such sort of wicket. This is all about experience indeed and I think as the time passes, he will be more proficient in every type of the wicket. He will be dangerous than any other bowler of the world.”
