Rangpur to become safe city using digitised devices: Mayor

RANGPUR:  Rangpur will become a safe city for citizens through preventing all sorts of crimes using closed circuit (CC) cameras at important places and digitised monitoring system round the clock, reports BSS. Mayor of Rangpur Sarfuddin Ahmed Jhantu disclosed the information while addressing the launching ceremony of the 'Closed Circuit Camera Network' in the city at DC Mour in front of Zila School here on Wednesday afternoon as the chief guest.
The ceremony was arranged for installing 33 CC cameras at 11 important places of the city by Rangpur City Corporation (RpCC) from its own resources under the first phase.
By pressing the remote control button in a laptop, Jhantu installed 33 CC cameras at Mahiganj Satmatha, Begum Rokeya University, Lalbag, Shapla Chattar, Dhaka Bus Stand, City Bazar, Katchari Bazar, Keramotia Mosque Mour, Check Post, Central Bus Terminal and City Corporation area in the city.
The RpCC will set up 45 CC more cameras at other important spots in the second phase to free the city from all sorts of social crimes.
With Police Super Mizanur Rahman in the chair, Chief Executive Officer of RpCC Akhter Hossain Azad, Additional Police Supers ABM Zakir Hossain and Fazle Elahi, Member Secretary of the divisional and district units of Community Policing Shushanto Bhowmick, addressed the ceremony, among others. Mayor Jhantu in his speech said necessary steps would be taken for controlling the law and order situation to turn Rangpur into a completely safe city at any cost.
“Nobody can escape after committing crimes in the city in future as the CC cameras will help the law enforcement agencies quickly identify the criminals to bring them into book,”the Mayor said.
