Two killed in Faridpur

Two persons were killed and fifteen others injured in two separate incidents in Saltha upazila and Sadar upazila yesterday.
A man was killed and 15 others were injured in a clash between two rival groups at Bonogram village under Sltha upazila of the district yesterday morning.
Assistant Superintendent of Police FM Mohiuddin said the clash ensued in the morning between two groups of the village over establishing supremacy in the area.
During the clash, Saro Matubbar, 32, son of Khadem Matubbor, a resident of Bonogram village of Gotti union of the upazila, died on the spot, while 15 persons sustained injuries. The injured were sent to local hospitals.
Being informed, police rushed to the spot and brought the situation under control.
Besides, Faridpur Kotwali police recovered a bullet-hit body from river embankment area of Hathath bazar in Sadar upazila.
The identity of the deceased could not be known.
Later, the body was sent to hospital morgue for autopsy.
Two workers die falling into septic tank in Lalmonirhat
Lalmonirhat: Two workers died after falling into a septic tank while cleaning it at Tushbhandar union of Kaliganj upazila on Saturday, reports UNB.
The deceased were identified as Liakat Ali, 40, son of Ramjan Ali of Jambari area in Tushbhandar union and Anarul Islam, 35, son of Tofazzol Hossain of the same village.
Quoting local people, sub-inspector Anwar Hossain, duty-officer of Kaliganj Police Station, said Liakat fell into the septic tank of Jambari mosque while cleaning it around 11am. Later, Anarul also got stuck inside the tank while trying to rescue Liakat.
Local people managed to rescue the duo and took them to Kaliganj Hospital where physicians declared them dead on arrival, SI Anwar Hossain added.
180 houses brought under power network
NAOGAON: A total of 180 houses of Ramrampur-Telipara village under Dhamoirhat upazila of the district have been brought under rural electrification network by Naogaon Palli Bidyut Samity (NPBS) on Saturday evening, reports BSS.
Whip of the parliament Advocate Sahiduzzaman Sarker formally inaugurated the electrification programme at a simple function held on the premises of Telipara Nurani Madrasa as the chief guest.
Local union parishad chairman Kamruzzaman presided over the function. Dhamoirhat upazila nirbahi officer M Safiuzzaman, AGM of the Palli Bidyut Kamal Hossain, organising secratery of the upazila Awami League Ajhar Ali and principal of the madrasa M Sahidul Islam addressed the function, among others.
NPBS brought an area of two kilometres under rural electrification network spending Taka about 30 lakh.
Wild elephants kill worker
BANDARBAN: A rubber worker was killed by a herd of wild elephants in Dolujhiri area under Naikhyangchhari upazila of the district early yesterday morning, reports BSS.
The victim was identified as Abdus Sobhan, 40, a resident of the same area.
Police said the elephants coming from the nearby forests trampled Sobhan while he was going to a nearby rubber garden. Police recovered the body and sent it to Cox's Bazar Sadar hospital morgue.
Nazrul’s birth anniv celebrated

Cultural programmes held to mark the birth anniversary of National Poet Kazi Nazrul Islam concluded at Darirampur Nazrul Moncho in Trishal of Mymensingh on Saturday.
Cultural Affairs Ministry and Mymensingh District administration organised the three-day national level programmes marking the bard’s 118th birth on May 25, sources said.
The programmes included a colourful rally, discussion meetings, cultural shows, staging of plays, etc.
Eminent Nazrul sangeet artistes from Dhaka and Mymensingh enthralled the huge audience with their classical performance. Fatema-tuz-Zohra, Ferdous Ara and Nishat Afza Arzoo enthralled the audience with their mesmerizing performance.
Artistes of some 80 cultural organisations of Mymensingh also performed at the programmes, said Prof Amir Ahmed Chowdhury Ratan, convener of cultural sub-committee of the celebrations.
A fair 'Nazrul Mela' was also held.
