Two women killed 
‘by husbands’

Two women were killed allegedly by their husbands in Natore and Jhenidah districts on Saturday. Our Jhenidah correspondent reports: A woman was killed allegedly by her husband at Hamdah Khondokerpara in Jhenidah town yesterday. The deceased was identified as Lamiya Noor Sonia, 22, wife of police constable Hanjala Hasan who serves at Jhenaidah police lines. Lamiya was a final year honours student of Hossain Shahid Sahrawrdi Government College in Pirojpur.
Lamiya’s paternal uncle Alam Shaikh said Lamiya was married to Hanjala Hasan, son of Abdul Hamid Sarder of Pobahati Uttarpara in Jhenidah about two years back following a love affair. They were living in a rented house for two months. Since their marriage the police constable husband had been torturing Lamiya for dowry. On Saturday Hanjala killed Lamiya and hanged the body from the ceiling, he alleged.
Officer-in-charge of Jhenidah police station Harendra Nath Sarker said they were informed about the death by Jhenidah Sadar hospital authorities.
The husband went into hiding, police sources said.
In Natore, a man allegedly hacked his wife to death and also injured himself over a family feud at Raninagar village of Gurudaspur upazila in the district on Saturday, reports UNB.
The dead is identified as Rokeya Begum, wife of a day-laborer Shafiqul Islam Shafiq of Raninagar village, said Officer-in-Charge of Gurudaspur Police Station Dilip Kumar Das.
A woman of the neighborhood was also injured in the incident occurred in the evening as she tried to rescue the victim.
At one stage, being chased by villagers, Shafiq took shelter inside a local mosque, from where police later arrested him, he added.
