Shilpakala celebrates Rebel Poet’s 118th birth anniversary

Celebrating the Rebel Poet’s 118th birth anniversary, Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy (BSA) organised an elaborate programme featuring musical soiree, recitation and dance presentations on May 25 at the National Theatre Hall of the academy. The celebration was a lively affair with a colourful cultural programme.
A discussion session was also held on the life and work of the Rebel Poet. Presided over by BSA secretary Jahangir Hossain Chowdhury, Professor Dr Karunamoy Goswami attended as a main discussant at the National Theatre Hall of BSA, while executive director of Nazrul Institute Abdur Razzak Bhuiyan and Dance and Recitation Department director of BSA Sohrab Uddin were present as discussants.
After the inauguration, artistes presented a group dance with the song ‘O Bhai Khati Sonar Cheye Khati’ directed by Anik Bose. Artistes of Spandan performed dance ‘Sukno Patay Nupur Paye’. Besides several group dances with the songs ‘Durgom Giri Kantar Moru’, ‘Eki Apurup Rupe Ma Tomay’, ‘Tora Sob Joyodhwani Kor’ were also performed.
Singer Sumon Chowdury rendered ‘Srijon Chhande Anande’, ‘Modhur Nupur Rumjhum Baje’, while Shahid Kabir Polash rendered ‘Pordeshi Bodhua Elo Ki Eto Dine’, ‘Bodhu Tomar Amar Ei Je’, ‘Mone Rakhar Din Giyechhe Ekhon’.
Eminent singer Bijon Mistri rendered ‘Aji Rokto Nishi Bhore’ while Rebeka Sultana rendered ‘Ankhi Sajaye Rakhlo Puspo’ and ‘Bulbuli Nirom Nargis Bone’.
Besides, leading Nazrul singers of the country took part in the event, including Khil Khil Kazi- the granddaughter of Kazi Nazrul Islam, Leena Taposhi Khan and Sharmin Sathi Islam. Recitation artistes Mohidul Isam and Laila Afroz recited poetry of Nazrul.
Moreover, BSA workers, employees and artistes placed floral wrath to the graveyard of the Rebel Poet Kazi Nazrul Islam on the early morning on May 25 to pay tribute on his 118th birth anniversary.  l
