Removal of sculpture protested in Barisal

Different socio-cultural organisations  in Barisal city have strongly condemned the removal of the statue of justice, or Lady Justice, from the Supreme Court (SC) premises. It was removed in the wee hours onFriday in the capital. A rally was held yesterday in the city protesting the removal of sculpture in front of Supreme Court. The programme was organised by Samajtantrik Chhatra Front Barisal unit in front Ashwini Kumar Hall. They also formed a human chain on the same issue. On the other hand another programme was organised by Charukala Barisal, in front Ashwini Kumar Hall. Speakers in the programme urged government to reinstate the statue of `Lady Justice’ in front of Supreme Court immediately.  They also protested the decision of education ministry to exclude fine arts course from school syllabus said fine arts could play vital role in preventing expansion of militancy and forming mindset of the children in creative
learning.
The fine arts activists urged the government to take country in a progressive way and maintain cultural heritage and tradition. They also government should not bow down before the illogical demands of the fundamentalists.
Artist Mahamud Chowdhury presided over the protest rally that was addressed among others by Dasgupta Ashish Kumar, Faridul Alam Jahangir, Barisal Teacher’s Association leaders, Altaf Hossain, president Charukala Barisal, Suvash Chandra Das, Tunu Rani Karmakar, Abdus Sobahan Bacchu, cultural activists.
