Khulna BNP’s half-day
hartal ends peacefully

KHULNA: The half-day hartal, enforced by the Khulna district unit BNP protesting killing of its leader Alauddin Mithu, passed off peacefully in the district on Saturday, reports UNB. The shutdown began at 6.00 am and ended at 12 pm.
The leaders and activists of BNP held a meeting in support of hartal in front of its city office around 10 am where Nazrul Islam Manju, central organising secretary of BNP, demanded immediate arrest and exemplary punishment of the killers.
Traffic flow on the city streets was thin and the shops remained closed during the shutdown.
No untoward incidents were reported from anywhere in the district during the hartal hours.
Earlier, on Friday, the district unit BNP enforced a half-day hartal in the district for today protesting the killing of its leader.
It also announced a 4-day protest programmes that include hoisting of black flags atop BNP offices in the district and holding protest meetings in 10 districts of Khulna division.
Alauddin Mithu, 45, organising secretary of district unit BNP, was gunned down by miscreants at Damodar in Phultala upazila on Thursday night.
