A mosque imam was chopped to death by miscreants inside the mosque at Gabindapur-Majhipara village in Rupganj upazila of Narayanganj yesterday night, reports UNB. The victim was identified as Abdul Aziz Munshi, 72, son of late Muslim Bepari, hailing from Nagurpur of Tangail district. Quoting locals, OC of Rupganj Police Station Ismail Hossain said a group of miscreants stormed into the mosque and chopped Aziz with lethal weapons while he was saying Isha prayer along with some other Musallis, leaving him injured critically. The attackers also injured Habibur Rahman, a Musalli, by hacking him with sharp weapons as he protested the assault. They were taken to Rupganj Upazila Health Complex where physicians declared Aziz dead, said the OC. Some locals said a man, Jahirul Islam, might have been involved in the killing mission.
