Speakers at a seminar in the capital yesterday said the newly emerged ‘Bangabandhu Island’ near Dublarchar in the Bay of Bengal could be a world standard tourist destination and a source of blue economy, reports BSS. “It’s essential to name the island after Bangabandhu through a gazette notification and take steps for proper maintenance of the 7.84-square kilometer island, which is two meters above the sea level,” said Dhaka University Vice Chancellor Professor Dr AAMS Arefin Siddique, speaking as chief guest at the seminar. The seminar on ‘Bangabandhu Island’ was held at Professor Abdul Matin auditorium of Dhaka University. DU Geography and Environment Department Professor Shahidul Islam presented a keynote paper while DU Zoology Department Professor Dr Niyamul Naser also addressed the seminar, among others.
