Lightning  strikes kill three
Sunamganj: Three people were killed in separate incidents of lightning strike in Dowarabazar and Chhatak upazilas on Wednesday, reports UNB. The deceased were identified as Sadik Ali, 36, son of Mafiz Ali of Mannargaon village in Dowarabazar upazila; Milon Miah, 18, son of Shamsuddin of Madhabpur village in Bishwanath upazila of Sylhet and M Akmal Hossain, 25, son of Nur Miah of the same village in Bishwanath upazila. Police said Sadik died on the spot as a thunderbolt hit him while he was catching fish at a haor in Mannargaon village during a storm in the morning. Another lightning strike hit Milon and Akmal while catching fish in the Surma River beside Nurullahpur village in Chhatak upazila in the morning, leaving them dead on the spot, said officer-in-charge of Chhatak Police Station Ashraful Islam.
Woman crushed under train

An unidentified woman was crushed under the wheels of a train at Noapara in the district town on Wednesday. Noapara Railway Station master M Mohsin Reza said a Khulna-bound commuter train from Benapole hit the woman, aged around 46, near Raj Textile Mill around 12pm, leaving her dead on the spot. On information, rail police recovered the body and sent it to Jessore General Hospital for autopsy, he added.

Mother, daughter killed in Feni

A woman and her minor daughter were hacked to death allegedly by some criminals at East Bashikpur village in Phulgazi upazila of Feni district on Wednesday night. The deceased were Fatema Sathi, daughter of Monir and Sathi’s five-year-old girl Isma. MM Morshed, officer-in-charge of Phulgazi police station, said a group of criminals swooped on the house of Sathi and hacked Sathi and her daughter Isma indiscriminately, leaving them dead on the spot. Getting no response from Sathi’s house around 8 pm, local people entered the room of Sathi and found their bodies wrapped in a quilt on the bed in a pool of blood and informed police. On information, police recovered the bodies and sent those to Sadar hospital morgue for autopsy around 9 pm. Sathi got divorced with her husband Shahadat Hossain Rimon of Kazirbagh, five months back and since then she along with her daughter used to live with her parents, said the OC. Rimon was released from the jail after securing bail in a criminal case few days back, said police. The motive behind the killings could not be known immediately.


Child marriage foiled in Jessore
JESSORE: A Jessore mobile court here on Wednesday saved an under aged girl from being the victim of child marriage in Abhaynagar upazila of the district, reports BSS. Locals said father of the daughter Abul Hossain had made arrangement for holding marriage of his daughter Ratna Khanom, 16, a student of class ten, with Chanchal Mahmud of Moshiali village under Phultala upazila.
Being informed, the mobile court led by Mondip Gorai acting Upazila Nirbahi Officer, rushed to the house around 11 pm with police and foiled the wedding. However, father of the girl has committed not to give marry his daughter until they attains matured ages.


Decomposed body recovered
Magura: Police recovered the decomposed body of an easy-bike driver from an abandoned house adjacent to Academy High School in the district town on Wednesday, reports UNB.
Officer-in-charge of Magura Police Station Ilias Ali said Jubayer Hossain, son of Akkash Ali of Sattapur village of Sadar upazila went missing on May 19 last. He used to drive an easy-bike in the district town.
The family members searched for him at every possible place in the area but they failed to find him, the OC said.
On Wednesday evening, local people informed police after smelling bad odour coming from an abandoned house near the school ground. Police later recovered the decomposed body of Jubayer, added the OC.
The body was sent to Magura Sadar Hospital morgue for autopsy.
A case was filed in this connection.
